 29 PALMS MARINE KILLED IN MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT
A 22-YEAR-OLD ACTIVE DUTY MARINE, STATIONED AT TWENTYNINE PALMS WAS KILLED IN A MOTORCYCLE CRASH LATE SATURDAY MORNING ON INTERSTATE 10 IN UPLAND. ACCORDING TO THE COUNTY CORONERíS OFFICE, THE MARINE, WHOSE NAME IS BEING WITHHELD PENDING FAMILY NOTIFICATION, WAS RIDING A MOTORCYCLE EASTBOUND AT THE MOUNTAIN AVENUE OVERCROSSING 11:47 A.M. WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO PASS BETWEEN TWO VEHICLES. HE STRUCK ONE OF THE VEHICLES, LOSING CONTROL OF THE SPORT BIKE. THE SUBSEQUENT COLLISION INVOLVED SEVERAL VEHICLES. ARRIVING EMERGENCY MEDICAL PERSONNEL PRONOUNCED THE MARINE DEAD AT 11:53 A.M. THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL IS INVESTIGATING.

MAJOR INJURY IN FRIDAY CRASH AFTER WOMAN RUNS RED LIGHT
A TWENTYNINE PALMS WOMAN SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES AFTER ANOTHER WOMAN RAN A RED LIGHT AT 7:35 FRIDAY MORNING ON THE HIGHWAY LA CONTENTA ROAD. CHP INVESTIGATORS SAY DIANE OLSON, OF TWENTYNINE PALMS, WAS DRIVING WEST ON THE HIGHWAY IN A SATURN ION AND WAS TURNING LEFT ONTO LA CONTENTA ROAD. 51-YEAR-OLD PATRICIA ROWAN, ALSO OF TWENTYNINE PALMS, DRIVING HER FORD RANGER AT ABOUT 50 MPH, FAILED TO STOP FOR THE RED LIGHT AND, COLLIDING BROADSIDE WITH OLSEN. THE IMPACT CAUSED THE VEHICLES TO COME TO A REST AT THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE INTERSECTION. DIANE OLSEN, WAS TAKEN TO DESERT HOSPITAL WITH SEVERE PAIN IN HER RIGHT RIBS AND RIGHT KNEE. PATRICIA ROWAN SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES AND REFUSED FURTHER TREATMENT.

THEATRE 29 IS PLANNING THE MEGA-HIT MUSICAL "GREASE " AS THEIR MAIN SUMMER PRODUCTION. THE BROADWAY MUSICAL LED TO A HIT MOVIE WITH JOHN TRAVOLTA AND OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN. TRYOUTS FOR "GREASE" HAVE BEEN SET FOR NEXT WEEK. REPORTER DAN STORK HAS MORE ON THE UPCOMING AUDITIONS FOR "GREASE" AT THEATRE 29...DIRECTORS GARY DAIGNEAULT AND ED WILL ARE HOLDING TRYOUTS ON TUESDAY MAY 27TH FOR THEATRE 29íS PRODUCTION OF THE MUSICAL "GREASE". THEY ARE LOOKING FOR BETWEEN 20 AND 30 YOUNGER PERFORMERS, WHO SHOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY YOUNG ADULTS. ONE OLDER WOMAN IS ALSO NEEDED. BE PREPARED TO SING A SONG.
