Joshua Tree National Park and the JTNP Association have announced their selections for their 2023-2024 artist-in-residency program. Six Artists from four different states and each with a different artistic discipline will be living and working within the park to share their creative interpretations of the Mojave landscape.

The artists will be housed at Black Rock for their 3 week stay – it sits in the northwest corner of the park and sits at higher elevations which means cooler, more temperate weather. The residencies will begin in Fall of this year and go through Spring of 2024. The Artists will be encouraged to engage with community members during their residencies – leading programs and sharing the work they create during their time in the park.

The six artists are

  • Cora J Pemberton-Quiroz – a painter from Phoenix Arizona,
  • Jim Weaver, a tooled leather and printmaker from  Edmond, Oklahoma,
  • Jeffrey Downing, a sculptor from San Francisco, California,
  • Matthew King, a  Minneapolis, Minnesota based photographer,
  • Marko Bajzer, a composer from Mill Valley, CA and
  • Kassy Lee, a poet based out of San Diego, California.
