MVCSD passes preliminary budget for public review with only $104 under

The Morongo Valley Community Services District Board of Directors held their regular 6pm meeting last night in Covington Park’s multipurpose room.

In the General Manager / Fire Chief report, Chief Brakebill announced various storm damage at the softball field’ and Covington Park’s tennis courts have been repaired and has asked Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe for additional disaster relief funds. Brakebill’s Fire Department has also worked a deal with Morongo Basin Ambulance for medication expenses. Using the buying power of Kern County, the partnership will allow the MBA to buy all necessary stock without billing the Morongo Valley Fire Department in efforts to reduce wasting costly medication. This item was brought to the meeting as new business and passed by all five board members.

After weeks of fine-tuning the 2023-24 preliminary budget, the current figures look vastly improved with a projected $104 under, compared to last year’s $58,303 overage. The board passed this latest version of the budget to be posted for public review.

Redrafted by President Gorke – the General Manager job description had several amendments, including the revision that the GM will not manage the fire department. Gorke’s updated draft was passed by the board.
