It was a productive evening for the Morongo Valley Community Services District Board of Directors last night (March 16).

Last night’s (March 16) meeting of the Morongo Valley CSD Board of Directors began with an addition to the agenda to develop a job description for the general manager position. In agency reports, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced that OHV enforcement will increase in the Morongo Valley area for the next several months in response to increased reports of OHV violations.

After approving past meeting minutes, the board opted not to recertify remote meetings under AB 361 until they speak with their attorney for clarification. When considering the current fire services committee, the board voted to keep the committee as an ad Hoc committee while they consider other, more permanent options.

As for the discussion on the proposed construction of a 196-foot tower on BLM land in Morongo Valley, the board spoke extensively with constituents about drafting a letter from the CSD opposing the tower unless the public comment period is extended. In the end, due to time constraints to oppose the tower, the board opted to approve President Christina Gorke to speak on behalf of the board at tonight’s (March 17) BLM information meeting.

The board also agreed to schedule a special meeting to draft a resolution formally opposing the tower which the board plans to submit before the public comment period ends on March 21.
