The Morongo Valley Community Services District will be holding a special meeting this Sunday at 4PM at Covington Park’s multipurpose room with one item on the agenda: to approve the CSD’s resolution opposing the BLM tower.
After a public meeting from 1-4 where residents are invited for assistance writing their substantial comments for their own opposition to the tower, the Board will review, discuss, and approve their official resolution.
The resolution states a variety of opposition points to the tower that would create a detrimental domino effect. Since the district provides fire and emergency safety from exclusive revenue from resident’s property taxes and special fire assessment, the proposed communications tower has the “potential to cause a significant reduction to property values within the community, reducing necessary limited revenue streams to perform current operations of public safety.” The resolution states this would not only affect residents, but all those who travel on the 62. The decreased revenue would also “create inability to properly staff the Morongo Valley Fire Department, increasing response time due to locations of surrounding agencies.”
The Board recommends “the BLM does not amend the 2.2 acres of BLM lands from Visual Resource Management Class II to Class III within the plan” and recommends the BLM denies the Grant of Right of Way as requested by the applicant.
