MUSD’s 2024-25 school year to begin a week earlier this summer

MUSD‘s 2024-25 school year is starting a week early this summer on August 12th, and the reason behind this push forward is of substantial benefit to both students and staff.

Back in 2022 MUSD launched a calendar stakeholder committee consisting of teachers, classified staff, school site administration and District office personnel to look at the calendar. They surveyed the community and identified two major problems they wanted to address; they wanted the first semester to end at winter break and for the calendar to align better with other districts’ calendars.

In years past students came back from winter break and there were about two weeks left in the semester, so they immediately went into testing. This was difficult for students and staff and impacted their ability to relax over the Winter holiday. In response the committee opted to shift the entire calendar forward so that the semester ends at winter break. This decision also moved the start date up by a week. To balance out the calendar, students will have a two-week spring break moving forward.

The MUSD 2024-25 school year begins on August 12th. Stay tuned to Z107.7FM for updates on orientation and back to school nights.
