MUSD Votes in favor of Substitute Teacher pay increase

Last night’s MUSD board meeting began with honoring Laura Grabow with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition, for commitment and dedication to mentoring young adults entering the dental field as well as her volunteer work with the Flying Doctors.

Director of Maintenance and Operations David Daniels gave a detailed slide presentation of a Three-Year Maintenance Plan for MUSD, including projected budgets for the annual projects.

Some great and overdue news for substitute teachers: Increased pay for Certified Substitute Teachers and Certified Permit Holders was narrowly approved 3 to 2, raising Certified Sub’s pay rate from $120 per day for Certified Permit Holders and $150 a per day for Certified Credentialed Substitutes to $180 per day for both classifications of substitute. Long term sub rate will increase from $210 per day to $220 for both Certified Permit holders and Certified Credentialed Substitutes. The two Board members who voted “nay” were in support of the pay increase but hoped to see more differentiation between the Certified Credentialed subs and Certified Permit Holders.

All other action items were approved, including the adoption of the Suicide Prevention Board Policy.
