MUSD elementary schools celebrate National School Lunch Week through Friday

For 77 years, the federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been a cornerstone of student success. Since 2018, every student in the Morongo Unified School District has had access to meals at no cost through the Community Eligibility Program.

The “School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association. Elementary students can expect pirate themed shwag, including decorations, coloring pages, puzzles, pirate hats, bookmarks, stickers and more as they enjoy their lunches this week.

Studies reveal that children are receiving some of their healthiest meals at school. Janet Barth, Director of Nutritional Services said, “School lunches are packed with essential fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and milk, all while adhering to federal nutrition standards that limit fat, calories, and sodium. National School Lunch Week is our opportunity to educate parents and students about the amazing benefits of our lunch program.”
