Last night’s MUSD meeting began on a somber note, when a moment of silence was requested to honor the recent passing of Twentynine Palms math teacher Nolan D. Lockwood on December 31st, as well as Joshua Tree Elementary Special Ed teacher and local novelist David Maresh, who passed away on February 8th after a long struggle with Parkinson’s.
Yucca Valley coaches Jess Geeson and Michael Myers were awarded with Certificates of Appreciation, accompanied by their student athletes representing the Trojans.
Town Manager of Yucca Valley Curtis Yakimow gave an extensive slide presentation on major town initiatives of mutual interest to the District, including Prop 68 Recreation Project, the Onaga Trail and Little League Sidewalk Projects, the Old Town Gathering and Parking Project. Yakimow also announced plans for the Yucca Valley Aquatics and Recreation Center, a project estimated at $30,000,000 with projected completion in late 2024.
Assistant Superintendent Amy Woods led the board in recognizing Black Rock Continuation School for its designation as a model continuation school, and District Testing and Assessment Coordinator Jennifer Beasley gave a presentation on Additional Targeted Support/Comprehensive Support affecting four MUSD schools.
