Last night’s MUSD Board meeting began with a stack of esteemed personnel to honor.
First, a certificate of appreciation was given to Behavioral Instructional Aide Lena Ford from Yucca Mesa Elementary. Then, Oasis Elementary 6th grade student Laila Rogers was awarded the winner of the California School Nutrition Association art contest with $100 and Certificate of Excellence.
Next was Judith Whitney from 29 Palms Elementary who was given an award for California Nutrition Association Manager of the Year. Assistant Superintendent Amy Woods then gave recognition to Palm Vista Elementary, who have been given Spotlight School Status.
Woods also gave an especially celebratory overview from MUSD’s FPM (Federal Program Monitoring) Review Results. Woods said, “It is the responsibility of the district to be in compliance with all laws and regulations, governing the receiving of federal funds. Any negative findings could result in funds taken away from our district. I have received the final notification of findings from the California Dept of Education…”
Woods went on to list every possible area of review—all of which had no findings at MUSD. She said “They stated, MUSD was the first district in the state of California to have had no findings, for either on site or virtual review for the last two years. They stated MUSD is well prepared and ahead of the game in needs of the students.” Woods also stated FPM’s proposal to have MUSD as a training district for others undergoing their review. “Dr. Schneider and Dr. Bravo have graciously agreed to assist in this capacity,” said Woods, before inviting Schneider and Bravo to the front of the room for a round of applause.
Lastly, Board member Hillary Slotta was given special recognition for the end of her term.
