Morongo Valley elects Roxy as Dog Mayor for second year in a row

For the second time in as many years – Roxy has been elected as Dog mayor of Morongo Valley.

The voting took place all weekend at the Morongo Valley Music Festival. Ballots were a dollar and almost 1000 votes were cast for the dogs and and for the first time – goat candidates. All proceeds of the election went to the Morongo Valley Youth Softball League.

On Saturday afternoon during the festival’s giant Halloween extravaganza, some of the challengers could be seen campaigning around Covington Park. Yogi was hard to miss, a great pyrenees pooch that came up to my waist and couldn’t get enough pets from the public.

“He’ll get to about 200 pounds… he’s still a puppy”

Molly was another standout favorite – the smallest of the top 3 contenders but she had a lot of support in her first year running.

Molly took 2nd place with over 300 votes and was sworn in by Chief Brakebill as Morongo’s Dog Fire Chief.

Chief Brakebill: “Congratulations! Report to work on Monday and pick up your helmet..”

Panda put in a good showing and was elected as a Sheriff’s Deputy, showing off his excitement for the new position by standing tall while he was awarded his Sheriff’s badge.

It’s easy to see why Roxy won for a second year in a row. Almost everyone recognizes her and Chief Brakebill says she has taken the last year in office seriously…

Chief Brakebill: “She’s at work everyday, sometimes I’ll drive by at 6AM in the morning, she’s already there talking to and greeting the public while they get gas and groceries…”

Owner Allison Nikyar says that this upcoming year in office will no different for Roxy:

Allison: We look forward to more love from her and the community, and love to the other dogs and animals!”

Roxy wore her mayoral hat and was surrounded by well-wishers after the election.

Mayor Roxy’s humility was inspiring.

You can visit the Mayor at All American Fuel right off 29 Palms Hwy, or around town as Roxy continues upholding the office that the people of Morongo Valley have put her in for the second year in a row.
