Morongo Valley CSD special meeting to discuss budget and general business

The Morongo Valley Community Services District Board of Directors held a last-minute special meeting at 6 p.m. last night to discuss the 2022-2023 budget overages, storm damage, budget reserves, and a new general manager position description.

The Morongo Valley Community Services District Board of Directors held a last-minute special meeting last night in Covington Park’s multi-purpose room to discuss their budget and to work on a job description for a new General Manager position. Budget concerns took precedence, and the board and residents discussed a $58,303 overage, why the budget is high, and how it can be lowered.

Chief Brakebill explained that staffing regulations, union salary increases, equipment repairs, and weather and fire emergencies over the last year can not be foreseen or controlled. Brakebill said he had sent a claim to FEMA and would be meeting with six FEMA representatives on September 26. Chief Brakebill also sent an email to the county to request additional funding to offset the cost of damage from Hurricane Hilary.

After a lengthy examination of salaries and staffing expenditures, the board put off any resolution of the budget until they meet again at the next regular meeting. The General Manager job description discussion was also held off until the next meeting.
