At the end of last night’s (December 15) meeting of the Morongo Valley Community Services District meeting, CSD President Gayle Swarat and Director Laurie Klimowicz resigned from the board. Reporter Jef Harmatz returns with the surprising coda to the meeting.
“It is with a sad heart that I tender my resignation to the Morongo Valley CSD Board of Directors on December 15, 2021.” – former Morongo Valley CSD President Swarat
That was former Morongo Valley CSD President Swarat, announcing her immediate retirement, following Director Klimowicz. Their announcements come at end of several stressful months for the board. The fire department faced a critical staffing shortage and Director of Operations Gerald Yearsley was accused of creating a hostile work environment, leading many in the community to suggest that the fire department would be turned over to the county. The board’s several special meetings over the last month saw much larger than usual turnouts, and were not without conflict. In her final remarks, Klimowicz regretted that board rules prevented her from speaking freely about the events of the last few months.
“I’m sad disappointed disheartened and disgusted when I hear people make accusations, jump to conclusions, tell lies, or simply be mean to others for no valid reason. I know that I already contribute to this community in many other positive ways, and that I will continue to do so, however, I am unable to comfortably continue in this position because I have lost trust in many people and processes. I hereby resign my position.” – Former Director Klimowicz
The remaining board members will be tasked with appointing new directors. To apply to be a director of the Morongo Valley CSD, see the below.
