The Morongo Valley Community Services District meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, June 21st has been officially canceled. The lengthy agenda, which included filling of vacant director positions, finding new legal counsel, and urgent budgeting issues, will go unaddressed for the third month in a row. Both the board’s failure to convene and unaddressed board matters spell major trouble for Morongo Valley, as the board could face legal consequences. Assignment reporter Gabriel Hart joins us with a look at why the meeting was canceled.
With the third meeting cancellation in a row, the MVCSD faces an uncertain future, since by law, a community services district board must meet once every three months to remain intact with no intervention from the county.
With the last two meetings canceled due to lack of quorum in the wake of resignations from two out of the three board members facing recall, Fire Commissioner Michael Emory told Z107.7 on Monday, June 5th that while “he’s been inundated with dealing with personal family issues,” he had “every intention of attending this month’s board meeting.”
Park Commissioner Christina Gorke said, “When I called (Fire) Chief (Brakebill), he said Emory informed him he wouldn’t be able to attend June’s regular meeting.”
Citing extended personal family matters, Emory told Z107.7 that he requested that Chief Brakebill postpone the meeting to June 30th. The meeting was not postponed.
Despite Wednesday’s MVCSD meeting cancellation, Tolbert says he plans to be at Covington Park’s multi-purpose room Wednesday at 6pm regardless, where he’ll be “passing more information to the public.”
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Directors Tolbert and Gorke said they were unavailable for a meeting on June 30.
