Morongo Basin Theatres win top Awards at 2022 Desert Star Awards

The Desert Theatre League hosted their 34th annual Desert Star Award presentation on Sunday, October 16th at Sun City Palm Desert. With a near capacity house, awards recognizing outstanding performances during the 2021-22 theatre season amongst dozens of local theatre companies were awarded.

Theatre 29 led the local company tally with nine awards including four for the Valentine’s cabaret ALMOST LOVE:

  • OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION CABARET/REVUE
  • OUTSTANDING DIRECTOR OF A CABARET/REVUE – Liyan McNeltier
  • OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING MALE PERFORMER IN A CABARET/REVUE – Ian Ferris
  • OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING FEMALE PERFORMER IN A CABARET/REVUE – Audra Puccio Nagby
  • A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER garnered two awards:
  • OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A MUSICAL – Charles Harvey
  • THE RON HAMM AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING HAIR AND MAKEUP DESIGN – Liyan McNeltier
  • Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express was recognized with:
  • OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA – Ian Ferris
  • A Christmas Carol, The Musical received recognition with:
  • OUTSTANDING MUSICAL DIRECTOR OF A MUSICAL –
  • Liyan McNeltier/Scott Clinkscales
  • MIS-CAST 2022 received a nod with:
  • OUTSTANDING LEAD MALE PERFORMER IN A CABARET/REVUE – Charles Harvey
  • Joshua Tree based Thought Theatre was also recognized with a top award for their staged reading of THE DI(C)E SQUAD:
  • OUTSTANDING DIRECTOR OF A STAGED READING – PROFESSIONAL – Miri Hunter
