Morongo Basin libraries seek three-person teams for annual Spell-A-Thon

Do you know how to spell onomatopoeia? How about acquiesce, or chrysanthemum? Whether you’re a student or a spelling whiz, the Friends of the Morongo Basin Libraries is seeking teams for their annual Spell-A-Thon, and you might be a great fit.

On Saturday, March 21, the Friends of the Morongo Basin Libraries will host their annual Spell-A-Thon, and are seeking teams to sign up for the event. The group represents the Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, and Twentynine Palms libraries, which together promote literacy throughout the Morongo Basin. The Spell-A-Thon is held each year to benefit the libraries, with funds raised contributing to special programs such as the Summer Reading Program for children and adults.

Community members are invited to form three-person teams to compete in the Spell-A-Thon. Participants are encouraged to gather pledges ahead of the friendly spelling competition, in which all team members will work together to spell words. Prizes will be awarded to the top-performing teams, with each member of the first-place team receiving $100 in cash, and each member of the second-place team receiving a $25 gift card. A prize will be given to the team that raises the most pledges, as well as door prizes to participants and spectators.

The Spell-A-Thon will be held Saturday, March 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Yucca Valley Community Center. Registrations must be completed by March 13; participation is limited to the first 12 teams, and there is a $25 registration fee.
