Mojave National Preserve roads closed – National Park updates for 8/27

Monsoon season is in full effect here in the hi dez and flash floods can happen quickly – taking roads and cars out in a matter of minutes. Parks and preserves in the area have been working on fixing flood damage to paved and unpaved roads – here’s your list of road updates for the morongo basin and surrounding areas:

The Mojave National Preserve has had intense amounts of rain this week – resulting in all major roads, campgrounds and visitor centers being CLOSED – they had just reopened a lot of those roads and we’ll keep you updated when we hear more.

In Joshua Tree National Park – The Big Horn Road complex, Geology Tour Road from the Northern Gate to Berdoo canyon, and cottonwood campground are all still temporarily closed due to flood damage.

Also if you are heading east on I-10 of the southern exit of the park – be aware I-10 has heavy flood damage east of Desert Center – detours and alternate routes are advised for that area.

Death Valley National Park has reopened Highway 190, but many unimproved roads remain closed as crews continue to work on them.

As always – when heading out into the hi desert, check weather and road conditions and when the rain starts running on the road, pull over or turn around – don’t drown.
