After seven months of turbulence within the Morongo Valley Community Services District, including recall efforts, resignations, and unprecedented legal barricades, the CSD has reached an apparent point of calm appointing two new board members to get back on track.
With the swearing in of Vice President Lynn Watts and Fire Commissioner Lance Fisher to commence at the CSD’s regular meeting on Wednesday, August 16th, Z107.7 reached out to these new members to introduce them to the community.
A mother to six children and “nana” to five grandchildren, Vice President Lynn Watts is an L.A. native who moved to the low desert in 1999 before finally calling Morongo Valley home in 2007. Watts has worked in the construction industry her whole life, first managing an electrical contracting office, then working for a general contractor. She currently manages the office for her husband’s custom cabinetry and furniture business.
Learning the Morongo Valley Fire Department was facing issues motivated Watts to become more involved informing neighbors of what was happening and ultimately to apply for the open position on the CSD Board.
Watts said, “I am looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work to help manage the responsibilities of the Board, paramount amongst which is the budget. I am brand new to this, but I do have many years of experience managing our family business through both good times and economic downturns and hope I can transfer that knowledge to this area.”
A local plumber by day, Director Lance Fisher has lived in Morongo Valley his whole life. As a high school senior, he worked for the High Desert Water District adjusting parcel maps and entering data for regional leaks.
Fisher said, “I’ve been wanting to get on the Board for fifteen years, but the timing was never right until now. After following issues within the CSD closely over the years, this opportunity finally came my way after lots of encouragement from community members to join.”
