The results are in for Morongo Valley’s first dog mayor, announced on Saturday by Fire Chief James Brakebill at Morongo Valley’s Halloween Extravaganza.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet Roxy, the new dog mayor of Morongo Valley!
Owned by Allison Nikyar of American Fuel and Food, Roxy is the shop dog at the Morongo Valley gas station who sits by the door making sure customers have everything they need, now with greater civic distinction and purpose bestowed upon her by Fire Chief James Brakebill last Saturday in Covington Park, when he announced her the winner at Morongo Valley’s Halloween Extravaganza after the festival’s beard contest.
Donned in a red, white, and blue top hat and commemorative blue ribbon, Roxy was then sworn in by Brakebill followed by a round of applause by local citizens. Nikyar spoke on Roxy’s behalf as she was mobbed by the local press and paparazzi.
“Roxy wants to thank all her local supporters for showing her endless love and support. Whether you voted for her or for any other dog, she hopes everyone had fun.”
Second place was given to another shop dog, Smash, owned by proprietors of The Hippie Chicken, and third place was given to Nova Ann. With the remaining nine dogs who ran for mayor, Brakebill gave a mass Oath of Office to all contestants who were sworn in as honorary council members.
