Local Water Board Candidates for Nov. 8 General Election

The County Registrar of Voters has released the “Final Official List of Candidates” that will appear on the November 8 General Election Ballot. The list includes eight candidates running for five open seats on local water boards. If that number seems small, it is because another eight candidates registered unopposed for an additional eight open seats.

Those offices may be found on the “Unofficial List of Offices That Will Not Appear on the Ballot.”

Morongo Basin’s registered voters will begin receiving their ballots in the mail in the second week of October. Which candidates, if any, for local water boards that appear on your ballot depends on where you live. Yucca Valley voters residing in Division 3 of the Hi-Desert Water District will choose between incumbent Roger Mayes and challenger Kenneth Nyquist. Voters in Division 1 of the Joshua Basin Water District must decide if Buck Buckley or Thomas Short will fill that empty board seat. And in Twentynine Palms, voters will choose among four candidates to fill three open seats.

That race includes incumbents Robert Coghill, Suzi Horn, and Randy Leazer, facing challenger Ted Wright.

Listen out for our next report when we’ll highlight the “unofficial list of candidates that will not appear on the ballot.”
