Local school start times will remain the same, despite a new state law. The Morongo Unified School District says because of their rural bussing schedules, they are exempt from the new times. In a Parent notice issued Tuesday they said:
“Beginning this year, Senate Bill 328 the “late school start time Bill” takes effect for many schools throughout California. While this Bill requires the school day for middle and high schools to begin no earlier than 8:00 am and 8:30 am respectively, ALL school start times withing MUSD will remain unchanged.“
The Bill taking affect, does allow for schools that are designated as rural school districts to be exempt from this change. Schools being deemed “rural” have been designated as such due to the impact such a change would have on transportation capabilities and children in the district. At the April 19, 2022 meeting of the Board of Education, the Board acknowledged the District’s rural designation.”
