King of the Hammers starts 1/18, locals-only tickets benefit community organizations

This Thursday (January 18, 2024) the checker flags go down signaling the start of the 2024 King of the Hammers giant off-road racing event that will take over an enormous dry lake bed in Johnson Valley off Old Woman Springs Road/State Route 247.

The world-class, annual King of the Hammers event attracts upwards of 80,000 visitors during the two-week run. As a virtual city, aka Hammertown, rises out of the desolate dry late bed just north of Landers, locals should anticipate increased volume at area eateries, gas stations, and markets, as well as on the two-lane Highway 247, and Highway 62 in Yucca Valley.

This year organizers have set aside discounted tickets to the event for Morongo Basin locals, restrictions apply. Tickets that normally sell at the gate for $100 each will be available through the Landers Homestead Valley Community Association and others at $30 each with all proceeds benefiting local non-profit community associations.

Morongo Basin residents can  purchase discounted tickets, while supplies last, by following the steps below:

  • Complete your SpeedWaiver here;  A separate waiver is required for every person in your party.  Parents, complete one for your child with their name and photo and your signature.
  • Contact any one of the participating community associations listed below to arrange purchase of your ticket.
  • To complete purchase you must show your current government-issued ID (Drivers License, Military ID, etc.) with your local address; offer not valid without proof of residency.
  • Your $30 wristband/ticket is non-transferable, non-refundable. You must show ID at the 2024 King of the Hammers gate.
