“Karaoke for a Cause” fundraiser wants you to sing your heart out at Theatre 29 this Valentine’s Day

Theatre 29 will hold their next “Karaoke for a Cause” fundraiser event, titled “Sing Your Heart Out Karaoke” on Friday, February 14th from 6 – 9pm. Bring the whole family for an evening of singing, prizes, special concessions, and sneak peek performances.

Has it ever been your dream to be centerstage? Well, this is your chance! This will not only be a night of musical entertainment, but also an opportunity to support a good cause. All proceeds from this event will go towards much-needed maintenance & upgrades for Theatre 29. There will be games for participants and viewers including a “Finish the Lyrics” game and a 50/50 raffle.

Not a singer? Not a problem! Simply come and enjoy special concessions such as Cotton Candy, Chocolates, freshly popped Popcorn and other Valentine specials as you support your favorite Theatre 29 and community performers. Or, for an additional $20, you can become one of ten special guest judges. This exclusive package includes VIP seating, a free concessions item and drink, a free raffle ticket and 50% off additional tickets, and a vote for all category winners. Judges will be voting for “Biggest Heartbreaker”, “Most Original Song”, “Judge’s Choice” and “Best of Night” with all attendees getting to vote for the “People’s Choice” winner. There will be prizes for all winners and a Grand Prize for the “Judge’s Choice”.

The event will be held on Friday, February 14th at the Theatre 29 main stage. Doors will open at 5:30 PM for contest and judge registration, with performances commencing at 6:00 PM and concluding at 9:00 PM. The evening will be hosted by Z107.7FM’s Cody Joseph, who will bring his charisma and energy to the role of Master of Ceremonies. Additionally, there will be special preview musical performances from upcoming Theatre 29 productions.

Tickets are $20.00 for regular admission, $17.50 for Seniors and Military, and $10.00 for Students. Tickets are available at www.theatre29.org or by calling Theatre 29’s Box Office at 760-361-4151. There are no additional fees for karaoke participation. Contestant and judge sign-ups are on a first come, first served basis subject to space and time limitations.

Charlie Thomas is a local theatrical director, actor, producer, stage designer and playwright with over thirty-five years’ experience in both professional and non-professional live theatre, film, television, and radio. His pedigree includes most of the major theatrical companies in the Coachella Valley and Morongo Basin including Theatre 29, Hi-Desert Playhouse, Groves Cabin Theatre, Palm Canyon Theatre and College of the Desert, to name a very few. Charlie is an active member of the greater desert performing arts scene. He currently serves as Vice-President on the Theatre 29 board of directors. He also serves on the board of the Desert Theatre League, a live performance support organization that provides judging and awards for theatrical and dance excellence for over 39 organizations. He is also a founding panelist of the Alliance of Desert Theatres which formed during the COVID-19 pandemic to network with performing arts houses all over the desert for support and networking while the industry was shutdown. During his theatrical career, Charlie has won many Desert Theatre League performance awards as well as their “Sidney Harmon” award which recognizes honorees for exhibiting theatrical excellence. Charlie Thomas joined Z107.7 in April 2020 and has greatly come to enjoy the everchanging scope of the work. He has also enjoyed the opportunity to share his breadth of knowledge and experience as Z107.7’s Entertainment Reporter.
