JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION IN 29 PALMS THIS SATURDAY

This year’s Juneteenth celebration in Twentynine Palms will take place on Saturday, June 18th – one day earlier than the official federal holiday. Juneteenth just became a federal holiday in 2021 despite being one of the longest celebrated African American events in the country. It was first celebrated in 1866 and commemorates the official final emancipation of slaves following the civil war.

The event is being put on by Women of Color Global 29, a community outreach group that focuses on empowering women of color here in the Morongo Basin. The celebration will include food, music, and games. Women of Color Global 29’s Carrie Williams says she hopes holding the celebration on Saturday will help avoid conflicts with Father’s Day on Sunday.

The Juneteenth Celebration starts at noon at Knott’s Sky Park in 29 Palms. For more info you can contact Carrie Williams at 760-272-0373
