If you are planning on heading into Joshua Tree National Park to do some climbing, always be sure to check their website for closures that can affect your ability to ascend these natural landscapes.
Currently two seasonal climbing closures are in effect to protect a nesting owl. The routes “Santa’s Little Helpers and Hang Ten” are in the Echo Cove Area of the park. The routes will be closed until July 15th.
The park also wants to remind you that when climbing please lookout for signs of the past – you are visiting the ancestral lands of the Chemehuevi, Serrano, Cahuilla, and Mojave! Native American communities still depend on these landscapes today for their cultural and religious practices. Please climb responsibly and respectfully.
Some areas of the park are permanently closed to rock climbing and bouldering due to their proximity to sensitive resources or private property. Other areas may be closed temporarily to protect sensitive wildlife.
