Joshua Tree Art Crawl tonight (9/14)

La Matadora Gallery is debuting a new show all about wigs. It’s called “Full Frontal” and features the wigs and wig-related art of Bebe McPherson. The gallery also debuts the latest their series of defiled thrift store art. La Matadora will be open from 6 p.m to 9 p.m., and feature an open mic drag show with Lady Chilane. 

Hey There Projects debutes a new show with Yucca Valley artist Melissa Lakey. Called “Sun Songs,” Lakey’s drawings and sculpture showcases the animals native to our desert as well as landscapes. Some of the proceeds from art sales will be donated to the Mojave Desert Land Trust. There wll be a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Beatnik Lounge debuts a new group show called “Come to My Art Show, featuring ten desert artists curated by Yeslin.

There will be a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. featuring food, drinks and DJ Shane.

All of these galleries are close together, so park at one and walk to the others.

Jef Harmatz is the co-host of Z107.7’s “Morning Show with Cody and Jef” and Z107.7’s News Director. He has worked as a journalist, cartoonist, chef, and delivery driver. He is known nationally for his writing and comics in publications like TimeOut, Popula, Roadtrippers, Solrad and Spiralbound, and for his album covers for Third Eye Blind and Sir Sly. He is known locally for his pop-up barbecue restaurant Hot Dog Panic. He remains unknown in the field of beekeeping, because he is too afraid of being stung to try it. When not on the radio, he draws comics and self-publishes little books. He lives with his partner and his dog Sunday in Yucca Valley, where he cooks them both elaborate meals.
