Directors at the Joshua Basin Water District meet at 2 p.m. today in special session at the district office on Cholita Road in Joshua Tree. Public hearings on standby charges and mandatory water conservation measures are likely to be overshadowed by the criminal activity revealed in the 2020-2021 financial audit.
There’s really no nice way to say it; the 2020/2021 independent financial audit revealed numerous incidents of misappropriation of funds.
According to the report, the sleight of hand went on for the better part of a year mostly through the fraudulent use of district credit cards. The value of the ill-gotten gains, coincidentally, is within a few thousand dollars of the General Manager’s $175,000 annual salary. Criminal charges have yet to be filed. The district is intent on recovering the funds.
The public may attend today’s meeting in person, via telephone, or on the Zoom platform.
