Showcasing 192 artists in 134 studios spread out over hundreds of miles, the Hwy 62 Open Studio Art Tours kicks off this weekend. Stretching from Morongo Valley to Wonder Valley, desert artists will open their personal studios, workspaces and homes to the public. The tours continue this weekend October 15 and 16, and next weekend October 22 and 23.
Tour hours are 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Hosted by the Morongo Basin Arts Council, creative mediums include photography, paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, books, collage, and even hats. Attendees should pick up a Hwy 62 Open Studio Directory that includes a complete list of artists, maps and directions. These can be found in shops, galleries and welcome centers in the region.
There is also a handy app for your smartphone. Attendees should note, however, that about 60 studio locations on the tour are NOT GPS-friendly. Drivers should be wary of sandy roads and keep an eye on the weather. As always, bring more water than you think you need.
