100

If part of your self-improvement plan for the new year was to be more active in your local political scene – there are lots of different ways you can get engaged with local government depending on where you live.

Twentynine Palms

In Twentynine Palms – the City Councils meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m.. According to their website The City of Twentynine Palms operates under a Council-Manager form of government. In that form, the City Council is responsible for adopting all laws and public policies, setting goals, designing strategies, adopting budgets, and giving direction.

The Twentynine Palms Planning Commission meets on the first and third Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. The Planning Commission prepares and implements the General Plan; recommends regulations for future growth, development, and beautification of the City; reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council on proposed subdivisions, and holds Public Hearings to review development and land-use applications.

Joshua Tree and unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County

For unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County like Joshua Tree, Landers, Wonder Valley and Morongo Valley – each area has local citizen groups that meet on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis.

It’s a lot to cover for a single person – but luckily we report on the agendas and meetings for the entire Morongo Basin. If you are interested in the water table that sits below our feet, there are water meetings every Wednesday, along with speciality meetings on tourism, public art, developments, and whatever else is happening in the hi-desert.
