Holiday cheer and Christmas lights brighten Yucca Valley at annual tree lighting

Listen here:

It was a cold but clear night at the Yucca Valley Library where hundreds of people got together for the annual lighting of the Christmas tree.

Mayor Dennison greeted the crowd at around 5:30, and the Yucca Valley Youth Commission was handing out coffee, cocoa and candy while kids lined up to visit and take a picture with the guest of honor – Santa Claus.

The line to see the jolly elf curved like a candy cane around the library parking lot where kids and their parents patiently waited to tell St. Nick what they are hoping for under the tree this year…

An electric Transformer, a big bike, a YouTube Channel, and a Playstation 5 are a few of the toys kids were requesting.

As the kids got their Christmas wishes heard, at around 6 o’clock it was time to light up the tree. An almost full but waning moon set a bright backdrop for the tree which is standing right on the corner of Highway 62 and Joshua Lane –

Twinkling white lights and classic Christmas ornaments lit up the towing tree while underneath Santa continued seeing good boys and girls throughout the night.

The San Bernardino Fire Department made an appearance as they were responsible for bringing St. Nick to the event. New deputy canine officer Naji made an appearance with Deputy Bakker, and residents festively dressed up and visited throughout the evening.

Yucca Valley continues the holiday festivities with snow play and a market on Saturday December 2nd.
