Hit-and-run case to begin trial in early 2026

Troy Reynolds, the suspect in a 2024 hit-and-run collision that killed Yucca Valley teenager Joshua Barreras, returned to Court on Friday morning for a Pretrial Hearing ahead of a Jury Trial scheduled for December 2. District Attorney Jason Gueltzow was present for the prosecution, as was Attorney James Rogan for the defense.

Before the hearing, both attorneys stepped out of the courtroom with Judge Sarah Oliver for a brief Chambers Conference. Judge Oliver then began the proceedings by stating that the Court was booked for in-custody felony jury trials through the end of the year. Both attorneys agreed to delay the trial until early 2026, and Judge Oliver scheduled a new Pretrial Hearing for January 21, with Jury Trial to begin February 17. Before adjourning, Judge Oliver offered the victim’s family an opportunity to make a statement to the Court on record. While they declined, the Judge explained that they had the right to make such statements during proceedings.

After the hearing, a representative of the Barreras family noted that they had approached the District Attorney with the request to delay the trial until 2026 to allow all parties to get through the holiday season.

Troy Reynolds is charged with Felony Hit and Run Resulting in Permanent Injury or Death; he is currently out on $500,000 bail.
