Henry Mockel Desert Flower notebook auction benefits YV library

The Friends of the Yucca Valley Library have procured a unique book with close ties to the hi-desert, and they are auctioning it off during the month of August.

Renowned botanical artist Henry Mockel and his wife self-published a notebook titled “Mockel’s Desert Flower Notebook” in 1962. It’s filled with 133 of Mockel’s artwork and descriptions of our region’s varied flora.  You may recognize Henry Mockel’s name from the exhibit of beautiful hi-desert wildflower serigraphs that just wrapped at the Hi Desert Nature Museum.

There are examples of some of these serigraphs in the book, alongside illustrations, photographs and sketches of the wildflowers that color our hi-desert.

The notebook up for auction is from 1971, and features a signature from Henry and Beverly Mockel. All proceeds from the auction of the unique wildflower book will go to funding the Yucca Valley Library and their special programs.

The online auction will be open for bids until the end of the month – you can bid at this link: https://www.yuccavalleyfol.org/yvfol/auction/auctionext.aspx?item=23
