Winter in the hi-desert can have wild weather swings – warm sunny days quickly drop to freezing temps after the sun goes down. For the rising number of unhoused in the Morongo Basin, a new pair of shoes can create a more comfortable day and warmer night.
A shoe drive and fundraiser put on by Joshua Tree event space Furstwurld will hold its third and final collection day this Saturday the 13th. For the past 3 Saturdays, they have been collecting new or gently used shoes for kids ages 6 to 18, as well as taking cash donations which go toward buying vouchers for new shoes.
You can find boxes for donations at Furstwurld, Soul Connection, Frontier Cafe, the DEZ fine foods, Sky High Pie, Cliffhanger Guides, and the Harrison House.
If you stop by the Harrison house to donate – the ecology and arts center is also holding an open house and seed exchange from 12 to 5 pm that Saturday.
