Something different is happening at 8PM tonight at the Joshua Tree Campground off Sunfair, maybe even the first of its kind to hit the dry lakebed, when OB Productions present their live art installation drag show set to classical music for an event they’re calling GOLDEN HOUR.
Heels touch the sand as the sun hits the horizon—Join local drag shapeshifter legend OBSIDIENNE OBSURD for a sunset dry lakebed drag show. GOLDEN HOUR is the high-desert spinoff of the San Francisco staple Golden Hour Baker Beach show, which was conceptualized by drag queen Syzygy in 2019 to marry the drama of the fog-covered shoreline with the equally stunning artistry of the Bay Area drag scene. Tuesday’s show boasts the same ostentatiousness, starring OBSIDIENNE OBSURD herself, as well as Morongo Basin legend Yza Licky Vision, and SKYNSUIT, former desert-dweller & the mother of the LA-based Haus of DERMA, accompanied by live classical music.
The fun begins at 8 PM. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $15, but all are encouraged to join in the magic regardless of financial ability. Bring something to sit on, something to sip on, and an open mind and heart to experience the special convergence of queer artistry and the striking midsummer star-speckled backdrop of the desert.
