Saturday night (6/21) at the Luckie Park skatepark from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Skate 29’s annual GO SKATE DAY will be happening in Twentynine Palms. If you haven’t been paying attention to the local skate scene in Twentynine Palms, you’ll be stoked to hear there’s now a skateshop called Escapade 29 located in the back of White Label Vinyl, where they have been busy rebuilding a crew of skaters mixed with longtime regulars like Aaron and Paul who have been putting on Go Skate Day events for years here in the hi-dez.
This year’s event promises to be bigger, better and more organized than ever with separate heats for skaters of all ages and skill levels, along with prizes for each heat.
There is a special heat for kids 12 and under from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. There will be races and obstacle courses, and prizes for each heat. Helmets and pads are required.
From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. the PRO / AM contest begins. That’s going to be all ages with various best trick heats, a death race, a trick-for-trick game of “PARK” (the crew’s version of HORSE), and prizes for first place wins, including new completes from Escapade 29 and Element Skateboards.
The winner’s ceremony is at 9:30 p.m.
There is free pizza and drinks at sign-up, and there will be a pop-up skate shop, lots of giveaways, photos with the Escapade 29 crew and a full sound system with DJs spinning. The event is sponsored by the City of Twentynine Palms, Escapade 29 skateshop and the local skateboard community.
If you can’t make it out to Twentynine Palms for Go Skate Day, don’t sleep on getting back on your board. The crew at Escapade Skate 29 are at Luckie Park Skatepark most evenings, and the lights are staying on longer at the skatepark for those warm summer nights.
