Glenn Grubbs’ solo exhibition brings art and poetry to Spaghetti Western

This September, Twentynine Palms artist Glenn Grubbs presents Still Moving, a solo exhibition of mixed-media paintings and poetry at Spaghetti Western in Morongo Valley. The show is open now and runs to October 26 with another public reception, including one during the Highway 62 Open Studio Art Tours.

Grounded in memory and place, Still Moving features abstract figures, vibrant colors, and lyrical compositions that draw viewers into moments of transition and reflection. Grubbs describes the work as “both background and foreground, reflecting the potential for joy in the moment, about presence and how we hold stillness, movement, and memory all at once.

Grubbs’ work is closely tied to memory and travel. One of the paintings in the exhibit was inspired by a night at the Glenn Miller Café in Stockholm, Sweden, where he and his wife experienced an intimate jazz performance with one of the world’s top trumpet players.

“So here’s the number one trumpet player in the world, and he had a four-person band, and there were only four people in the crowd: me, my wife, and two other people. But he just kept playing, and it was so wonderful, like a magical night. While we were listening to him, I pulled out my sketchbook and started drawing.”

That night inspired several paintings, one of which will be in the show.

Hosted at Spaghetti Western (50048 Twentynine Palms Hwy, Morongo Valley). A second reception is planned for Saturday, October 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. during the Highway 62 Open Studio Art Tours.
