The driver of a Frontier Communication truck was injured during a rollover accident on Twentynine Palms Highway in Morongo Valley just before 7 a.m. this morning (August 30). The work truck, which was upside down on the north side of the highway, left the unidentified driver severely injured but able to speak with paramedics as he was taken away.

California Highway Patrol officers at the scene told Z107.7 that the driver of the truck was allegedly on his phone and not wearing a seatbelt.

UPDATED 8/30 12:15 pm. A representative from the CHP said that the vehicle was driven by Jonathan Battles, a 49-year-old male from San Bernardino. The CHP said Battles allowed the Chevrolet to drift to the left and strike the raised concrete center divider.  Battles then steered the Chevrolet to the right and off the road where it overturned in the open desert.

Battles was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected.  He sustained major injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
