A free screening of a documentary on homelessness will be held in Twentynine Palms Monday night. There are over half a million homeless people living in the United States and it’s an issue that many wrestle with here in the Morongo Basin. A new documentary made by a home-grown filmmaker tells the story. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details …

Born and raised in Twentynine Palms, documentary filmmaker Josh Hayes now lives in San Francisco, where homelessness is a visible and consistently heartbreaking issue. Hayes recently finished a decade-long process of completing his first feature-length film, “The Invisible Class” which takes a long hard look at homelessness in America by asking, “How did we get here?” The film will screen nationwide but Hayes is hosting a “friends and family-style screening” in his hometown, at Smith’s Ranch Drive In on Monday, September 9 at 8 pm.

Admission is free though Hayes is encouraging food donations for the 29 Palms Community Food Pantry, especially peanut butter or canned meats. Smith’s Ranch Drive-In is located at 4584 Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms.
