A bright new sign that says “open” now adorns the United Methodist Church of Twentynine Palms, where they will be providing needy families with food every single Wednesday.
The church distributes food to the community every Wednesday, but recently members of the community thought that the church was closed because the woman who organizes the distribution, Linda Geddis does not drive a car, and the parking lot appears empty. Some people even turned back after thinking the church was closed.
Geddis learned that people had felt turned away, and immediately acquired the bright “open” sign so that the community would know she was inside the church and ready to give out food.
She told Z107.7 that one woman came into the church to ask about the new sign. That woman was a mother of four, and was grateful to learn about the distribution and left with free food.
Geddis said, “Now that the sign is up, we shouldn’t have anyone not knowing we are open.”
The United Methodist Church gives away food from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays to anyone in need.
The United Methodist Church of Twentynine Palms is located at 6250 Mesquite Springs Road, next to the high school.
