FLASH FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR THE MORONGO BASIN, TIPS TO STAY SAFE

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for the Morongo Basin through late tonight (August 31). Flash floods can strike with little or no warning, turning a wash into a rampaging torrent that can overtake roads in minutes. Reporter Ernest Figueroa has tips to help keep you safe in the event of a flash flood…

Keep alert for signs of heavy rain while driving. Do not attempt to cross flowing water or flooded areas in your vehicle. Remember, just six inches of moving water can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away. Turnaround, don’t drown! A flash flood watch means it is possible that rains will cause flash flooding in the specified area. Be alert and prepared for a flood emergency. A flash flood warning means flash flooding is occurring or is imminent in the specified area. Move to safe ground immediately.
