FIRE BRIEFLY THREATENS SKY VILLAGE SWAP MEET

A fire briefly threatened the Sky Village Swap Meet in Yucca Valley was quickly put down by firefighters Thursday, June 30. San Bernardino County Fire Battalion Chief Mike McClintock said at about 3:15 p.m., units were dispatched to a report of black smoke in the area of Sunnyslope and Old Woman Springs Rd.

Reporting parties were not able to accurately provide an exact location or description of what might be burning. Medic Engine 41 arrived to find a fire burning on Sky Village property. Crews found approximately six swap meet tables and inventory burning. Threats to onsite structures and nearby vegetation were quickly mitigated and the fire was brought under control within minutes of arrival. Additional fire engines from Yucca Mesa, Joshua Tree, and Cal Fire Yucca Valley assisted with the extensive overhaul and mop-up operations. Currently, the cause and origin remain under investigation.
