Editorial: Twentynine Palms High School Stadium should honor biggest supporter

On October 20th, 2023, the ribbon was cut officially opening the much overdue Wildcat Stadium at Twentynine Palms High School. Z107.7 News Publisher Gary Daigneault offers this editorial opinion in support of a public effort to name the facility.

The new stadium is 43 years overdue, Twentynine Palms High School athletic and graduation activities have been held at the aging Junior High School, the former High School site, since its opening in 1980. A grass roots effort has begun to name the new field and stadium to honor John Cole. Supporters say Cole’s 41 years as a teacher, coach, principal, administrator, and School Board trustee are in addition to his service as a City Councilman and Mayor makes him uniquely qualified for the honor.

During those years of service Cole worked tirelessly for TPHS Football, training and encouraging coaches. He has coached, and supported sons and daughters and grandsons. Always pushing, advocating, and raising funds for that new stadium.

Z107.7 agrees with the effort, and we urge the High School Principal and the Morongo Unified School District to consider naming the new athletic stadium and fields facility in honor of the much deserving John Cole.

With an editorial opinion, for Z107.7, I’m Gary Daigneault.
