Desert View Conservation Area on agenda for County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday (4/21)

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors gathers for their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday morning (April 21).

The Board will receive a presentation on proposed improvements to the Desert View Conservation Area. The DVCA is a special county district that serves as a park adjacent to Section 6 in Joshua Tree. The Board of Supervisors will receive a presentation about the second phase of improvements proposed for the area, which are expected to include additional trail signage, seating areas, habitat shelters, viewing platforms and educational panels. The Board will then be asked to approve the negative mitigation declaration and direct County Works to solicit bids for the project. The improvement project was initially approved in 2019, when Phase I brought a parking area, restroom, information kiosk and new trails with signage.

The Board is also expected to approve a three year contract with Yucca Valley-based funeral service provider Wiefels & Son for body transport services. Each transportation is estimated to cost between $200 and $1000. The County Contract includes two other transportation operators, and allocates $2,000,000 per year for three years.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors meets in regular session Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. in San Bernardino. You can attend the meeting locally by interactive video at the Joshua Tree Community Center, 6171 Sunburst Avenue in Joshua Tree.
