The trial of Pejman Elahi continues, with testimony that focused on the initial incident that resulted in 7 of the 9 counts against Elahi – when he allegedly chased down an Instacart Delivery driver on a quad, pointing a gun at him and firing, then continued chase all while trying to get into the vehicle.
The half day of testimony wrapped up Cpl. Crowl’s report on weapons found in a subsequent search of the property that Pejman Elahi was occupying – clarifying wheter a small black powder pistol found along with the AR-15 was functional. Elahi claims that the firearm is a “fake gun” without a firing pin.
The court also heard from Dr. Johns Woods, the trauma surgeon at Desert Regional Medical Center that was part of the team that worked on Gerald Jonas’ gunshot wounds resulting from the alleged second incident.
Prosecuting Attorney Heather Razook then called the Instacart driver who was allegedly chased by Elahi on September 25th of last year.
Pejman listened intently without much reaction as the driver described the early morning incident. On the morning of September 25th on a seemingly routine delivery, Elahi was described as following the victim on a white Suzuki quad as the driver was looking for the delivery address on the edge of Twentynine Palms – an unincorporated area commonly known as Wonder Valley.
The driver missed his turn while on a dirt road, and when he went to turn around, he says that Elahi blocked the road with the quad, got off the bike and pointed a gun at him.
The driver saw a small gap on the side of Elahi, and as he was attempting escape the delivery driver said he heard a gunshot. The driver crashed into a bush while escaping, and Elahi got on the quad and continued pursuit.
Eventually – the driver exited the soft sand and dirt roads and hit Amboy, which is paved, and lost his pursuer. The courtroom listened to a portion of the 911 call made by the Instacart driver, who sounded calm despite the harrowing situation happening right outside their car window.
Testimony continues today (4/19), and we will have a recap of that testimony along with a story this weekend laying out the details of the case, and the state of the trial so far.
