Dawn Rowe: Illegal dumping in the desert hard to catch but easy to report

On Friday’s Z107.7 Up Close Show, host Gary Daigneault spoke with Chair of the County Board of Supervisors Dawn Rowe. Daigneault spoke with Rowe about unfortunately commonplace issue of illegal dumping in the Morongo Basin

“People dump for various reasons. They don’t want to take it to the landfill, they don’t want to pay the fees, they don’t want to take the time out of their day, they think they can get away with it.

We have some chronic dump sites where we will install cameras. We will clean them up. My office has a budget for cleanups. If you see a spot, you can call. We will send people out, and cameras will hopefully help prevent it. And more community clean up days.”

When asked what a resident can do if they catch someone in the act of illegal dumping, Rowe said:

“If you can see the license plate, take pictures, that’s helpful. Note the time and date. The penalties for illegal dumping are painful, but it’s hard to catch. You can use the county’s “See Click Fix app” to report illegal dump sites and send photographs.”
