Covington Park skatepark open thanks to one Morongo Valley resident

Since last week’s reporting of Covington Park’s beloved skatepark closing due to mud flooding from Tropical Storm Hilary, a prominent Morongo Valley community member has taken measures into his own hands to clean it and is now re-opened and safe for use.

Morongo Valley Youth Softball League organizer Buddy Stogner cleaned every mud-covered inch of the skatepark’s cement surface with his own tractor, a task he did alone that took him two hours. Beyond the softball league, Stogner has no official title at the park—instead of waiting for overwhelmed park maintenance crew, he just did it.

Stogner said, “There’s not much for kids to do in this town, and it just needed to get done—not only for the children, but for the rest of our community as well.”

Stogner also stated time was of the essence with he and his wife Tammy organizing the 2nd Annual Halloween Extravaganza at Covington Park. He said, “I need that place to be safe,” and plans to remove some of the fallen trees from last week’s storm in addition.
