At today’s, June 14, 10 a.m. meeting of County Supervisors in San Bernardino, the board is looking at several hot topics relevant to our Morongo Basin. Chief among them are changes to the Short-Term Rental Ordinance and a proposed freeze on issuing new Short-Term Rental Permits.
Immediately following a public hearing on proposed planning commission amendments to tighten up county code for Short-Term Rentals, Supervisors are likely to approve an interim urgency ordinance that will immediately freeze approval of new short-term rental unit permits. Hopes are that the action will allow time to study the impact of what up to now has been the runaway growth of such rentals the effects of which has been felt throughout our communities in terms of traffic, housing availability, employment, and a host of quality-of-life issues.
The meeting is being live streamed to the video conferencing facility at the Bob Burke Government Center in Joshua Tree where the public may attend and comment.
The agenda and its supporting documents, along with live and archived video of the meeting, can be viewed online at http://www.sbcounty.gov/cob.
Items listed on the Consent Calendar are expected to be routine and non-controversial and, unless the board directs that an item be held for further discussion, the entire Consent Calendar will be acted on as the first item of business on the Discussion Calendar (entitled “Action on Consent Calendar”).
The public may address the board on any item on the agenda and on any matter that is within the Board’s jurisdiction. To address the Board regarding an item on the agenda, complete and submit the yellow form entitled “Calendared Item – Request to Speak.” To address the Board regarding an item within its jurisdiction but not on today’s agenda, complete and submit the white “Public Comment – Request to Speak” form.
Requests must be submitted to the Clerk of the Board before the item is called for consideration. If the speaker wants the Board to consider any documentation, eight (8) copies of the documentation should be submitted with the request. Submitted documents will not be returned. The Chairman will call speakers forward to present their comments at the appropriate time. When called, approach the podium and be prepared to speak. Speakers may address the Board for up to three (3) minutes total on the consent calendar, up to three (3) minutes on each discussion item, and up to three (3) minutes total on Public Comment, not to exceed a total of twelve (12) minutes of the meeting, unless it is determined that a different limit is appropriate. Speakers are to address the Board as a whole through the Chairman. Comments to individual Supervisors and/or staff are not permitted.
