“Coffee With a Cop” gives the public a casual forum with law enforcement

The Yucca Valley Starbucks has a good relationship with local law enforcement, so inviting the community to a “Coffee with a Cop” morning event seemed natural. Reporter Hilary Sloane was at last Friday’s (December 9) gathering at the Yucca Valley Starbucks and will tell you more about it

Deputy Josh Merrill of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, the newest school resource officer in 29 Palms, is passionate about creating connections. Deputy Merrill has been thinking of ways for Officers and residents to get to know each other, and Coffee at Starbucks was a perfect solution.

The gathering started at 8 a.m. and lasted until 10 a.m. Ten deputies from the Sheriff’s Department and Two officers from the California Highway Patrol attended. Some deputies and officers helped behind the food bar and served at the takeout window. It was relaxed and easy with a receptive crowd. The next Coffee with a Cop event is at the 29 Palms Starbucks on December 16 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
