The Morongo Basin CHP station will be in a Maximum Enforcement Period this Memorial Day weekend. Holiday gatherings with family and friends will dramatically increase vehicles on roadways and the California Highway Patrol will be making sure motorists obey the laws and reach their destinations safely. Seat belt safety is the primary focus.
The Memorial Day enforcement starts tonight, May 27, at 6 p.m. through 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 30. CHP officers will be patrolling throughout the state, monitoring roadways for seat belt violations, distracted drivers, speeders, and anyone suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Nearly two-thirds of all vehicle occupants killed in crashes last Memorial Day were not wearing a seat belt. The CHP’s Memorial Day enforcement coincides with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s ongoing “Click it or Ticket” seat belt campaign, which continues through June 5.
