To expand transportation and recreation options for its residents, the city of Twentynine Palms has commenced the construction of the Channel Trail Project.
In line with the Twentynine Palms Community Trails Master Plan, construction on the Channel Trail Project began on August 11, with completion slated for mid-December of this year.
The Channel Trail will feature a 10-foot-wide concrete bike path, a six-foot-wide decomposed granite running path, benches, trash cans, bike racks, a water fountain, a water refill station, and public art. Solar-powered LED lights will mark the center line.
The 2,000-foot multi-use trail will connect Split Rock Avenue to Adobe Road and join the city’s existing 20 miles of trails. The western end will connect to downtown, and the existing Split Rock Avenue Class I trail that extends north to El Paseo Drive, where existing trails and sidewalks connect to Oasis Elementary School and Twentynine Palms High School. On the eastern side of Adobe Road, Channel Trail will connect to sidewalks leading to the Civic Center.
